WICHITA — Police said Friday that the death of man whose body was found on a riverbank near Central and Nims is a homicide.
The victim is a 41-year-old homeless man; police are not releasing his name, said Wichita police Lt. Ken Landwehr, head of the homicide unit.
Police had no suspects, Landwehr said late Friday afternoon.
The man was found Friday morning with blood on him, an emergency dispatcher said.
A parks employee found the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the dispatcher said.
The discovery was reported at 8:21 a.m.
The body was found near the bridge on Central just west of Nims. The spot where the body was found is across the river from the Mid-America All-Indian Center. It also is in the vicinity of the giant Keeper of the Plains sculpture, apartment complexes, the Wichita Art Museum and the Riverside tennis courts.
Detectives were canvassing the area Friday afternoon.
