A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man in Oaklawn late Wednesday night, a law enforcement official said early Thursday night.
The man was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail shortly before 5:15 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated robbery, jail records show.
Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Capt. Greg Pollock said investigators are still looking for two other suspects in the killing of 19-year-old Markez Phillips, who was shot once at about 9 p.m. at the house at 3002 E. Locust, which is west of K-15 and just north of 47th Street South.
Phillips was taken to Wesley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:14 p.m.
Witnesses said three men, all in their late teens to mid-20s, stole three big-screen televisions — two of them 42-inch Vizios, Sedgwick County Sheriff Robert Hinshaw said — and left in a tan or gold SUV with the televisions sticking out the back.
Phillips was visiting his girlfriend at the time of the robbery, investigators said.
Some of the people involved in the incident have gang affiliations, Hinshaw said, but evidence gathered by detectives does not indicate the crime was gang-related. There were four other people in the house, ranging in age from 5 months to 63 years, he said, but they were not injured.
Two of the suspects initially entered the home, Hinshaw said, and the third came in a short time later. Phillips was shot inside the house early in the unfolding robbery, Pollock said, and then the televisions and other property were taken.
“Detectives have worked through the night” on the case, Hinshaw said, and “a fresh wave” of detectives will be following up on tips. Anyone with information on the case should call 911, the investigations section of the sheriff’s office at 316-660-5300, or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

This is the first homicide of the year in Sedgwick County, outside of Wichita. There were two in 2009 — including Deputy Brian Etheridge — and none in 2010.
