Krumsick given CCIM lifetime achievement award

Herb Krumsick’s message for his fellow commercial realtors was simple Thursday: “Your day is coming.”

Krumsick, 67, senior vice president at Wichita’s J.P. Weigand & Sons, received the Kansas Certified Commercial Investment Member chapter’s lifetime achievement award during the annual luncheon at Wichita State University’s Marcus Welcome Center.

The award is co-sponsored by the Center for Real Estate at WSU. Also Thursday, the chapter awarded educational scholarships to prospective CCIMs Bree Kelley, Lewis Kelley, Alex Knudson, Craig Simon and Adam Clements.

“Real estate basically houses America,” Krumsick told the group, which features commercial realtors holding the CCIM designation, the industry’s graduate educational degree. “Real estate economics are America’s economics, and America’s economics are different. America’s biggest obstacle today is lack of confidence.”

Krumsick blamed that lack of confidence on bad monetary policy and financial uncertainty.

“If you tell him the rules, he’ll play by the rules and make some money,” he said about the American investor. “The problem is we’re changing too many rules. Nobody has any confidence to take action.”

With those factors muddying any market outlook, Krumsick shied away from a look into the future.

“So what’s the future in real estate? I don’t know, and you don’t either,” he said, to laughter from the audience. “No joke. There are a lot of conflicting things today. If you’re not confused after what I’m telling you, you’re not listening.

“So what you want to do is work hard,” he said. “Work hard and your time will come.”
