SSG Clinton L Wisdom USA 11-08-2004 OIF Atchison, KS, age 39. On Nov. 8, 2004 tragedy struck with the explosion of an Improvised Explosive Device near a Suburban vehicle being used by the Kansas soldiers on a security mission as a convoy escort for the chief United Nations weapons inspector. Killed were SGT Donald A. Clary, Troy, KS and SFC Clinton L. Wisdom, Atchison, KS. Several others were severely injured. Clary and Wisdom were the first Kansas National Guard casualties of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the first Kansas Army National Guard soldiers to die in combat since the Vietnam War. The two soldiers died after they positioned their vehicle between a convoy they were assigned to protect and a vehicle driven by insurgents which exploded. Wisdom was also a veteran of Grenada and the Persian Gulf War.
