NCAA DIVISION II PLAYOFFS

Northwest Missouri (11-2) at Pittsburg State (10-1), 1 p.m. —The national semifinals are on the line today when these two MIAA powers meet in Pittsburg for the first time since a Northwest Missouri playoff win in 2005.

Pittsburg State, the MIAA champion, won the regular-season matchup 38-35 in overtime on Oct. 1 at Arrowhead Stadium. The Gorillas rallied from a 28-6 halftime deficit that day to end the Bearcats' 49-game MIAA winning streak.

Today's game matches the MIAA top-ranked offense of Northwest and the top-ranked defense of Pittsburg State. Northwest's offense averages 510 yards and 51.2 points per game while Pittsburg's defense is giving up 299 yards and 20.2 points.

SALT CITY BOWL

No. 19 Lackawanna (7-3) at No. 14 Hutchinson (8-3) 1 p.m. — It's the third straight time hosting the Salt City Bowl for the Blue Dragons, and it's one last chance to watch Cordarrelle Patterson play.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound wide receiver for Hutchinson is the top-rated junior-college football player in the nation according to Rivals.com, and is the Jayhawk Conference offensive player of the year. So far this season, he has 1,686 all-purpose yards and 21 touchdowns — more than the total of fellow Jayhawk teams Independence (16) and Highland (14).
