CHENEY – One person was critically injured this morning in a rollover crash near Cheney and flown to a Wichita hospital for treatment, according to a Sedgwick County dispatcher.

Pretty Prairie resident Debbie Lawrence, 57, lost control of her 2007 Ford Focus as she tried to pass another vehicle about a mile east of Cheney near 383rd Street West and U.S. 54 at around 6:42 a.m., according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Both drivers were eastbound on U.S. 54.

Authorities said Lawrence struck a Jeep Liberty driven by Murdock resident Nancy Diepenbrock, 60. The car rolled into a ditch and rested on its roof. Diepenbrock’s Jeep stopped after striking a guardrail, according to the highway patrol.

Lawrence was taken by EagleMed helicopter to a local hospital. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the Kansas Highway Patrol reports.
