Wichita police: Dinged-door shooting was gang-related; fifth person sought

Wichita Eagle

Wichita police said Monday the shooting that erupted early Sunday after a car door-dinging incident was gang-related, and they are looking for a fifth person.

Lt. Randy Reynolds said one of the injured men, age 29, was arrested.

Trouble started shortly before 2 a.m. when a car door was dinged while parked near the gas pumps at the QuikTrip at Lincoln and Hydraulic. A fist fight between four men — two from each side — escalated into shots being fired, according to police. The four men, ranging in age from 21 to 33, were taken by private vehicle to separate hospitals before police arrived.

The 29-year-old was one of the men who fired shots and was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail, police said. The 21-year-old also was released from the hospital.

“All have gang ties,” Reynolds said.

During the shooting, a nearby house and one of the cars was heavily damaged. At least 20 people gathered, but no bystander was injured.
