Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.

This single mom is doing the best she can to provide for her 8-year-old daughter, but things are tough.

She is in the final weeks of the process to become an occupational therapist. Her internship requires she work 40 to 45 hours a week for no pay.

On the weekends, she works an additional 15 hours as a leasing agent at an apartment complex.

The 25-year-old woman was diagnosed with a rare blood condition about 18 months ago. It’s thrombocythemia, which means an over production of platelets in her blood. That puts her at high risk for blood clots, strokes or heart attack. She has two prescriptions she has to take, and finding an insurance company has been difficult.

“It gets to be really hard some days,” she said. “I’ve only got just a couple more weeks in internship where I don’t get paid. The money has just run out and the bills still keep coming in.”

“I have racked up numerous bills …” she wrote on her application for Share the Season.

“I have never asked for help but right now I really need it. Share the Season would make a big difference in our lives, just to pull us through for just a little while. I would like just a little lift to help us through the holiday season and be able to finish my education so I can begin a new and better life.”

Share the Season has raised $25,700 so far. Among the donors: Lindy Bayouth; Mary Burrell; Patsy and Eric Jay Davis, in memory of Charles Davis; Barbara Hemphill; John and Anita Horton; Barbara Keating; Errolene McClintick; Don and Linda McGinty; Shirley McPhail; Darrell, Kim and Emily Moore; John and Roberta Swinehart; Tom and Ruth Wells; Jack and Claire Williams; and nine anonymous donors.

Send contributions to Share the Season at the Wichita Community Foundation, 301 N. Main, Suite 100, Wichita, KS 67202.
