Washburn quarterback Dane Simoneau threw for 424 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the Ichabods to a 52-49 win over No. 11 Abilene Christian in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs at Topeka.
Justin Cooper added 107 yards rushing and four touchdowns for Washburn, which exploded for 24 points in the second quarter and a 38-21 halftime lead, but had to hold on as Abilene Christian rallied in the second half.
Jahmil Taylor led the Ichabods on defense with 12 tackles, including 2.5 sacks. Marty Pfannestiel added 12 tackles.
Washburn (10-2) will face MIAA champion Pittsburg State next Saturday in Pittsburg.
