The Better Business Bureau of Kansas is cautioning residents to be wary of callers claiming they’ve won a reward.

It is just the latest twist on an old financial scam, officials say.

In the latest version, callers tell their targets they are being rewarded for paying their taxes and utilities on time. They may also say the target has been selected randomly by the U.S. Government.

No matter how official the calls may sound, the agency states, they are not legitimate. They are simply trying to get the people they’re calling to send money or account information.

Residents are urged to report such suspicious calls to the bureau at 316-263-3146.
