Family goes without paycheck for two weeks

Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.

After her husband’s work hours were cut and he switched jobs, this family went without a paycheck for two weeks.

“The third week, we got a check for a whopping $54,” the woman said. “And from that money, I had to feed my girls,” ages 4 and 8.

She had signed up for payment plans with the gas and electric companies.

“I just lost my pay arrangements because I was forced to choose between what bills to pay and how much food to get for my girls,” she said.

They are also at risk of losing items of sentimental value if they cannot pay for a storage shed in Michigan.

“My mom passed away last December, and I don’t want to lose all her stuff there, including all our family pictures,” she said.

She found out about Share the Season the day she was in dire need of hope.

“The same day I had called the credit union and found out that there was no check that week, I went home and turned on my computer to find a Share the Season story on Yahoo’s front page.”

She has been told that she will receive $700 to cover her entire electric, gas and water bills, and her car insurance.

“This would help tremendously with our situation,” she said. “I couldn’t believe that they could respond this quickly. I don’t know what I would’ve done without this help.”

So far, Share the Season has raised $15,388. Among the donors: Ted and Marcia Ayres, in honor of Jim and Beverly Rhatigan; Darrell and Judy Baker; Gregory Barbeau; Ira and Betty Hill Bonebright; George and Judy Ehmke; Ann Hollenback; Betty Regier; Gary and Barbara Shepard; Edward and Sharon Thompson; Gerald and Sara Williams; and seven anonymous donors.
