Wichita school officials are investigating a beating at Hadley Middle School on Monday morning that left a student unconscious and with a mild concussion.

The 13-year-old boy was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment and then sent home, police said. The attack happened about 11:15 a.m. outside on school grounds, near Ninth and West streets.

The victim told police he was assaulted by three classmates, but he couldn't remember their names.

"We are looking into it," said Susan Arensman, a spokeswoman for the district. "We're getting inconsistent information. Different witnesses are giving different accounts of what happened."

School officials contacted the parents immediately, she said, and they wanted to file a police report. But officials said the boy should be examined at a hospital first, and the parents contacted police later.

There is no evidence to suggest the beating was gang-related or met the criteria of a hate crime, Arensman said.
