Local

Trout season begins Oct. 15.

Some urban lakes are stocked in the middle of the month with channel catfish. These waters include Lake Afton, Cruiser Lake, Emory Park, South Lake and Watson Park. Other urban lakes are stocked the first week of the month. More information is available from the KDWPT Region 4 office, 316-683-8069.

Cheney: White bass fair trolling crankbaits or sassy shad along the dam and deep drop-offs. Wipers good on deep contours with jigging spoons or live bait. Walleye fair along dropoffs trolling 3-4" shad imitation crankbaits. Crappie fair around structure with jigs or minnows. Catfish good lakewide using cutbaits and stinkbaits.

Council Grove: Catfish fair drifting shad or cutbait over flats 4-10' deep. Saugeye fair along rocky, windblown shorelines using shad-imitating plastics or crankbaits. White bass fair over points, ledges and humps trolling crankbaits, plastics or spoons. Wiper fair using crankbaits, jigs or spinners along windblown shorelines. Crappie fair along the dam and near breaks in 9-14' deep using jigs or jig- n-minnows.

El Dorado: Wiper good with slab spoons or trolling crankbaits near breaks, humps or roads. White bass fair to good off points with slab spoons and along rocky shorelines trolling crankbaits. Crappie fair using minnows or jigs near breaks or structure in 12-15' water. Catfish fair drifting shad. Walleye fair to good in water 18-25' deep during the day and 5-10' during dusk and overnight using crankbaits, slab spoons and jig-n-live bait combos.

Kingman SFL: Crappie fair using minnows under a bobber near shore. Catfish good using cutbait or stinkbait. Largemouth bass fair with topwater and spinnerbaits near weedlines. Northern pike good with rattletraps or inline spinners lakewide around vegetation.

Marion: Catfish good off the dam. Crappie fair using small jigs or minnows in brush. White bass good in deep water off points with twistertails and shad. Wipers good trolling shad and crankbaits off main lake points and flats.

McPherson SFL: Catfish good near feeders using livers, stinkbait or shrimp. Crappie fair with minnows and small jigs near brush and weedlines. Largemouth bass fair near ledges using 3-5" shad imitations.

Kansas

Cedar Bluff: Crappie fair to good over steep drops and around the fish attractors vertically fishing minnows, small slab spoons or jigs. Walleye fair casting crankbaits or jig-n-minnows over points, submerged roads and parking lots. White bass/wipers fair to good over points and drop offs vertically fishing small slab spoons.

Fall River: Catfish good on worms, shad sides or prepared baits over mud flats. Crappie good near brush in river, south Rock Ridge Cove and over channel breaks with jigs and minnows. Largemouth bass fair on twister tails, worms, crank and spinner baits near river stumps. White bass good over mud flats or on channel breaks using twister-tail jigs, spinners or shad-imitator crankbaits.

Glen Elder: Crappie fair with minnows or jig-n-minnows in deep water brushpiles off swim beach, Campground 3, Marina Cove and the bluffs. White bass/wipers good near the causeway, state park area, Walnut Creek and off the dam using slab spoons, roadrunners and Kastmasters. Walleye fair trolling crankbaits along the dam. Smallmouth bass good shallow around the dam, south bluffs and Granite Creek bridge using shad-imitations. Catfish fair over chumming areas using stinkbaits or in the outlet using shad and nightcrawlers.

Kanopolis: Catfish fair in the upper end on liver, shrimp, cutbaits and prepared baits and chumming south side humps. Crappie fair on small jigs or slab spoons shallow along the dam and around the boat docks. Trout stocking delayed. Walleye/saugeye fair along river channel edges and around the rocks using shad-colored crankbaits or slab spoons. White bass fair using shad-colored lures or slab spoons wading windblown points. Wipers slow to fair off windy points using bucktailed and twister-tailed jigs or shad imitators.

Milford: Catfish good near river ledges and drifting flats using shad sides and cutbaits. Crappie good using jigs and minnows in coves with 10-15' water near brush or rocks. Walleye fair in deep water off points or over channel ledges 20-30' deep with crankbaits or jigging spoons. White bass/wipers good with crankbaits or jigs off windy points and on live bait or spoons near humps 35' deep. Smallmouth bass fair off rocky points and bluffs with jerkbaits or crankbaits. Largemouth bass fair on plastics and spinnerbaits near flooded brush and vegetation and topwaters early and late.

Toronto: Catfish good using worms, stinkbaits or shad sides on mud flats on windy side of lake. Largemouth bass fair around stumps in the river using twister-tailed jigs, worms, spinners or crankbaits. White bass good with twister-tailed jigs, spinners or crankbaits on mud flats. Crappie good near stumps in Mann's, Woodson and Toronto coves and in Walnut Creek with jig or minnow.

Tuttle Creek: Catfish fair to good at the tubes and chumming in 20' water in the reservoir with worms. Crappie fair on jigs near brushpiles 10-15' deep. White bass good trolling or on spoons. Saugeye fair at the tubes and the River Pond using jigs and crankbaits.

Webster: Wipers/white bass fair off dam and north shore trolling diving lures, especially at low light periods. Crappie good at breakwaters on north and south side and around the fish attractors and drop-offs with jigs, jig-n-minnows and roostertails. Walleye fair off dam, near old swim beach, Bow City parking lot and old launch area on jigs, jig-n-minnows, jig-n-crawlers or trolling crankbaits. Catfish fair along Old Marina Point, in the upper end and along north side with shad, worms, and shrimp on the bottom.

Wilson: Catfish fair with cut bait or worms on windy side of lake. Stripers fair to good with slab spoons or bucktailed jigs on mainlake points. Walleye fair along the edges of the river channel up west or around the weedbeds with slab spoons or white twister-tailed jigs. White bass fair near flooded vegetation on white twistertailed jigs. Black bass good using crankbaits, plastics or topwater lures near flooded vegetation, the rocks or any structure.

Waterfowl Report

Low plains early zone duck season, Oct. 8-Dec. 4 and Dec. 17-Jan. 1.

Cedar Bluff WA: Water level is 17.3 ft. below conservation pool. Approximately 400 teal observed. Hunting conditions fair, with no flooded shoreline vegetation. Success rated fair.

Cheyenne Bottoms WA: Duck numbers range from 12-22,00, mostly pintail, shoveler and blue-winged teal. Pool 1A- 15"; Pool 1B and 1C- 17"; Pool 2, 3A and 4A are dry, Pools 3B- 8", Pool 4B- 14" and Pool 5- has very limited water. Hunting conditions are fair. Success rated fair.

Jamestown WA: Water levels are good, with all marshes full. Approximately 500 ducks, mostly teal, pintails and wood ducks, present. Hunting conditions are good. Success rated good.

McPherson Valley Wetlands: Water levels poor throughout the wetlands. Approximately 25 ducks are on the public area. Hunting conditions are fair. Success expected to be poor. All McPherson Wetlands areas are in the early zone.

Texas Lake: Approximately 300 ducks, mostly teal, wigeon, pintail and wood ducks. Pool 1, 2, 3B & 6 are full; 8 & 9 have huntable water. There are small pools north of Pool 6. Fair vegetation in all pools. Hunting success expected to be fair.

High plains duck season, Oct. 8-Jan. 2, Jan 21-29.

Norton: Water level is 6.2' below conservation pool. Approximately 600 ducks present, mostly teal, with a few pintail, wigeon and shovelers. Hunting conditions good, with flooded vegetation. Hunting success expected to be fair to good.
