WICHITA—A man told police he's missing $15,000 in cashier's checks today, stolen on Tuesday from his car after two people robbed him at his Wichita home, police said.

The man, 62, said he knew the people, but only by their street names; "Big O," a man, and "Candy," a woman.

He told police the two got into his home about 8:20 p.m. by telling him they wanted to talk with him. But once inside they punched him, stole his wallet, and broke into his car, where he had cashier's checks containing money he said was from an inheritance. He told police he had not had time yet to deposit the money, said. Lt. Doug Nolte.

The man was not seriously injured, Nolte said.

Local financial institutions work with police on such cases, and are "pretty savvy" about tipping police and questioning individuals if someone tries to get money from sizable cashier's checks, Nolte said. Police will be in touch with local institutions about this reported robbery, Nolte said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call 911 or CrimeStoppers, Nolte said.
