Volunteers needed for Saturday celebration

  • Published Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at 12:09 a.m.

The Kansas 150 Festival is looking for volunteers to help the state celebrate its 150th anniversary on Saturday.

Organizers say 60 to 80 volunteers are needed from about 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for various jobs. What is needed:

* Eight or nine people who can drive vehicles carrying dignitaries in the Kansas Sunflower Parade.

* Thirty-six ambassadors who will interact with spectators, letting them know what to expect and keeping them from venturing too far into the street.

* Sixteen sanitation workers who can clean up after the parade, which will include cattle and horses.

* Six to eight ambassadors who can help vendors locate their booth spaces.

The parade is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., starting at Central and Main and proceeding south to Douglas and then west to Century II.

Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to contact Jan at ks150@gowichita.com or call 316-660-6302.
