WICHITA — A man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after Wichita police say they found the makings of a methamphetamine lab in his vehicle at a Walmart parking lot.
Sgt. Jesse Boomer said officers called him to the Walmart on West Kellogg, after they found suspicious-looking chemicals in a man's vehicle. Officers had responded to a call of a suspicious character around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Boomer said.
"They immediately backed out," Boomer said. Boomer said the chemicals were consistent with a portable meth lab.
Several rows of parking and an entrance to the store were temporarily shut down, because police were concerned about strong winds, Boomer said.
A unit trained in handling clandestine meth labs was called to handle the chemicals. Some customers could not move their cars until the police were finished.
"A couple of cars couldn't be moved for quite a while, just because of their proximity," Boomer said.
Boomer said the vehicle had been reported stolen.
