WICHITA — A neighborhood squabble between two boys escalated on Monday into a fight that landed a mother and her son in jail, police said.

The two boys, ages 11 and 12, live in the same north Wichita neighborhood and had argued on Sunday, Lt. Doug Nolte said. They resumed the argument on Monday in the 2600 block of North Piatt, and then began fighting each other.

During the course of the fight, Nolte said, witnesses told police the 12-year-old's mother urged him to pick up a brick and throw it at the other boy.

He obeyed, and the brick hit the other boy in the forehead, opening up a cut. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The 12-year-old was booked into the juvenile detention facility on suspicion of battery. His 44-year-old mother was arrested on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
