QUICK BITES

West-side Panda Express

Wichita now has two Panda Express restaurants. A new west-side store opened last weekend at 2760 N. Maize Road (316-722-4649). Wichita's other Panda Express opened last summer at 11787 E. Kellogg Drive.

Taco pizza is tops

A new issue of Food Network magazine, set to hit newsstands Tuesday, will feature a local pizza. Wichita Pizza Co.' s taco pizza, which is topped with refried beans, pizza sauce, beef or chicken, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and crushed nacho-cheese chips, represents Kansas in a feature that names one great pizza in each of the 50 states. Wichita Pizza Co. is at 1520 S. Webb Road and sells all sorts of interesting pizzas, including one made with sauerkraut. For more information, call 316-425-1900.

Non-fair funnel cakes

A reader who hails from Rhode Island discovered a culinary obsession at the Kansas State Fair, and now he can't think straight: Funnel cakes. The reader asked if funnel cakes were available in any Wichita restaurants, and they are. IHOP stores across the country are featuring funnel cakes as a menu special through the end of August. And one other local restaurant keeps funnel cakes on the menu: The Burger Barn at 3302 W. Central, which serves the deep fried delights with powdered sugar or with other decadent toppings such as apple, cherry, strawberry, caramel and cream cheese. For more information, call 316-425-0443.
