Mother Nature put on a bit of a show Thursday morning in the Wichita metropolitan area.
A line of dark, menacing clouds rolled over the city late in the morning, bringing with them loud thunder, strong winds and an impressive lightning show.
"There was quite a bit of lightning — more than average," said Paul Howerton, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wichita.
Winds as high as 49 mph were reported at McConnell Air Force Base, but no severe weather watches or warnings were issued for Wichita or Sedgwick County.
No hail was reported with the storms, either.
It was, in short, a classic summer thunderstorm in the Sunflower State.
The official reporting station next to Mid-Continent Airport recorded 0.23 inches of rain from the storm, which had moved through shortly before 1 p.m.
Heavier amounts may have fallen downtown or elsewhere in the city.
No damage was reported with the storm. Chances for showers and thunderstorms will persist through the weekend, forecasters say.
