The two suspects in Wichita's most recent homicide were arrested in a small northwest Kansas town after a woman recognized one of them as they tried to break into a neighbor's house, police said Friday.

The caller recognized Amy Newell from photos released by Wichita police, Lt. Ken Landwehr said.

Newell and Shannondoa Hutchinson, 37, were arrested as they were driving away in a red Mazda pickup from a house in Edmond. They surrendered without incident to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper and a Norton County sheriff's deputy.

Edmond is about 70 miles northwest of Hays.

Hutchinson and Newell have been linked to the shooting of John Delgado, 24, during a drug deal involving meth on Tuesday night in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 1501 N. West, police said.

Delgado died later that night at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis.

A 34-year-old man also shot during the incident was released from a local hospital on Thursday, Landwehr said.

Hutchinson lives in Council Grove and Newell, 33, lives in the Emporia area. They are expected to make their first court appearance on Monday, Landwehr said.
