Moved by the knowledge that Osama bin Laden had died at the hands of U.S. troops, Randy Hubbard decided to take action.

"It just kind of hit me this morning that we need to show Wichita that we're proud of our troops," Hubbard said today.

So Hubbard, a member of the American Legion Riders, organized a patriotic parade today involving other members of the group.

Around noon, about 13 motorcycles and a convertible — bearing U.S. and military flags — took off around noon from American Legion Post No. 4 at Murdock and Water on a loop through the central part of the city.

"We're not supporting the death of bin Laden. This is in celebration of all our troops, and not just a chosen few, because they all had a hand in this," Hubbard said.

"Right now, we're in a war with terrorism," he said. "This is an accomplishment and a great blow to terrorists everywhere."

Brandon Dozier, an Army soldier and one of those who came out to join the parade, recently came back from Iraq, where he worked as a Black Hawk helicopter mechanic.

To Dozier, the killing of bin Laden showed how the armed forces perseveres.

"When we have a mission to do, we will not stop until it's done."

The parade drew plenty of attention.

Along the route, vehicles pulled over, and motorists honked and waved. As the motorcyclists passed, some pedestrians stopped, stood at attention and put a hand over their heart.
