WICHITA — Strong winds and rain are forecast for the Wichita area today.
The National Weather Service calls for a 50 percent chance of rain. High temperatures look to reach the 50s, meteorologists say.
But it's going to be windy. Strong strong northwest winds are expected to sweep over most of central and south-central Kansas today. Forecasters say winds could range from 35 and 45 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.
The strong winds also raise the danger of grass fires along and west of I-35. But the chance of showers also dampens the dangers of fire.
The chance of rain continues into this evening and throughout the night with cold temperatures reaching low in the mid 30s.
The sun returns and winds calm Saturday. Highs are expected in the 60s and a west wind from 10 to 15 mph in the morning and breezes decreasing to 5 mph in the afternoon.
Sunday brings partly cloudy skies and highs in the 70s.
