Free tax help available starting Monday

  • Published Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at 12:05 a.m.

Free sites will open starting Monday across Kansas to help residents file their state and federal tax returns.

The Kansas Department of Revenue said the sites are part of a joint effort with the Internal Revenue Service's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.

Help is available to low- and moderate-income residents, generally earning $49,000 or less, who cannot prepare their own returns.

Taxpayers should bring the previous year's return, photo identification, birth dates and Social Security numbers for all household members, as well wage and earning information.
