The 22-year-old man wanted by police in connection with a homicide in Planeview last week was arrested in Larned on Tuesday, authorities said.

A resident spotted Benjamin Redgate at a laundry Tuesday morning in the central Kansas town and recognized him from a photograph circulated by Wichita police.

"He has family there" in Larned, Lt. Ken Landwehr said of Redgate.

The resident called 911, and a Larned police officer spotted Redgate walking along a road. Redgate tried to flee, running across the city's municipal golf course, but he was caught after a short chase, Landwehr said.

Redgate was transported to Wichita late Tuesday and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. He was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder.

His older brother, Christopher, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder. Both brothers' charges were in relation to the death last week of 22-year-old Luke German.

Police say German was playing a video football game with the Redgates at their house in the 3900 block of Roseberry in the Planeview neighborhood the evening of Oct. 19 when a fight broke out amid accusations of cheating.

The fight began in the front yard , Landwehr said, continued back in the house and then returned to the yard.

German collapsed in the yard, and someone from the house called 911 to report a man on the ground. He was not breathing when paramedics arrived, police said.

He was taken to Wesley Medical Center, where he died Thursday night. Christopher Redgate was arrested the next day after an autopsy revealed German's death was caused by internal injuries consistent with a severe beating.

Benjamin Redgate fled from the house on Roseberry, and police issued a warrant for his arrest.

His bond was set at $250,000 and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 10.

Christopher Redgate's bond was set at $250,000, and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 8.

German's death is the 14th homicide in the city this year.
