WICHITA — Investigators say there were no signs of foul play on a body pulled from the Little Arkansas River this morning.
"There was no major trauma," said Lt. Ken Landwehr of the Wichita Police Department.
Emergency crews retrieved the body of a man who appears to be in his 50s from the water near Central and Seneca, said Lt. Chris Conover of the Wichita Fire Department.
The man was partially clothed and appeared to have been in the river for at least a couple of days, Conover said.
"He's possibly a homeless man," Conover said. "We have a lot downtown, and this happens quite often. We find bodies under bridges, in the river. This would be our second this year."
Landwehr said the man had no identification on him and would have to be identified through fingerprints. It would be at least next week before authorities can make an identification, he said.
Sgt. Jeff Davis of the Wichita Police Department said city workers found the man while cleaning debris from the river by the Riverside tennis courts at around 11 a.m. near Seneca and Central.
"They thought it was a mannequin because there's so much debris," Davis said.
