WICHITA — A thunderstorm that brought large hail and torrential rains to south central Kansas spawned several small tornadoes tonight but caused no significant damage.

The National Weather Service in Wichita said three tornadoes touched down briefly south of Wichita between 6:30 and 7 p.m. The storms prompted a tornado warning for Sedgwick County and surrounding areas until 7:15 p.m.

KWCH meteorologist Ross Janssen said a half-dozen tornadoes were reported in the area, the first of which was spotted seven miles west of Derby.

He said hail was reported across the county.

"We've had some damage — most of it hail damage — and some sporadic reports of wind damage," he said. "There hasn't been any significant damage from a tornado."
