A 63-year-old woman who apparently thought she had put on her car's brakes at about 5 p.m. today, accidentally hit the gas instead and drove into a Derby clothing store.
There were no injuries, with the possible exception of a knee injury to the store's only customer at the time, according to Derby police.
The woman told police she thought she had applied the brakes as she pulled into a parking stall in front of Fashion Bug at 1906 Johnson Dr.
But witnesses told police that just as she was about to stop, the engine revved up and she drove into the building, officer Marc Wilson said.
Wilson said the woman apparently panicked and tried to make a U-turn and drive out of the store. But a pillar apparently stopped the car.
He said there was extensive damage to the store.
"It could have been a lot worse," Wilson said.
