Intrust Bank Arena took a loss of about $60,000 in July, which county officials had anticipated with the slow-down of performances in the summer.

Assistant County Manager Ron Holt told commissioners Wednesday that many tour groups take the summer off. And he emphasized that the loss was less than expected.

The arena hosted two public events in July — concert performances by REO Speedwagon and Pat Benatar, and Rascal Flatts.

"One month does not tell the story," Holt said, adding that arena management expects the year to end well.

He also reminded commissioners that SMG, the private company that manages the arena, is responsible for any losses. That arrangement with the county is unique.

The arena has brought in about $4.9 million in gross income from its opening in January through July.

After operating expenses of nearly $2.9 million for that period, net income for the downtown venue is just more than $2 million through July.

In August, the arena had three public performances: Celtic Woman, the Dave Matthews Band and Rush.

No events are scheduled for this month.

WWE Monday Night Raw is scheduled for Oct. 4. The Wichita Thunder begins playing Oct. 16 and also has games Oct. 23, 20 and 30. Carrie Underwood is scheduled to perform Oct. 19.
