A 16-year-old girl was killed and three other people were injured in a one-vehicle accident in Barber County on Tuesday evening, authorities said.
Trista Herd of Medicine Lodge was killed in the crash, which happened at 6:10 p.m. on Pixley Road, about 4 miles east of Medicine Lodge and 3 miles north of U.S. 160, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.
She was a passenger in a 1999 Dodge pickup, which was traveling north on Pixley when it left the roadway on the west side.
The highway patrol reported that the driver, 22-year-old Joshua Small of Medicine Lodge, over-corrected the wheel and the truck swerved off the east side of the road, striking an embankment before coming back onto Pixley and rolling two times.
Small was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in Wichita for treatment. He is in critical condition today, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Passenger Jacob Harmon, 17, of Sharon, was transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where he is in critical condition today.
Another passenger, 19-year-old Chelsea Small of Medicine Lodge, was taken to Medicine Lodge Hospital. An updated condition report has not been made available.
None of the occupants were wearing a seatbelt, the highway patrol reported.
