A former Northeast Magnet High School English teacher has pleaded no contest to a charge of attempted sexual exploitation of a child under 18 and faces a Sept. 22 sentencing.
Kevin A. Christinat, 32, entered the plea under an agreement with prosecutors, court records show.
Christinat, who was initially put on administrative leave with pay, has resigned from the Wichita school district, district spokeswoman Susan Arensman said Thursday.
Christinat had originally been charged in Sedgwick County District Court with electronic solicitation of a child at least 14 but younger than 16.
Electronic solicitation is using the "telephone, Internet, e-mail, chat rooms, text messaging or other electronic means" to entice a child under the age of 16 to "commit or submit to an unlawful sex act."
Police told school officials that they didn't think a Northeast student was involved or that the incident occurred at the school, Arensman has said.
According to the plea agreement, filed last month, Christinat is expected to receive probation.
Prosecutors are recommending that he be required to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
Christinat entered the school district in 1998 while studying at Wichita State University and was hired full time after graduating in 2002, according to school records.
