The Machinists union is planning a small rally Thursday at K-42 and Hoover Road to protest aircraft manufacturers moving work outside Wichita.

The union is trying to save jobs, an organizer said.

The rally will begin at 3 p.m. The union also is planning a larger rally for sometime next week.

The Machinists are in negotiations with Cessna Aircraft and Hawker Beechcraft.

Cessna's contract expires Sept. 19.

Hawker Beechcraft and the union reopened talks a year before the current contract expires. The company is exploring moving Wichita work to Louisiana or Mississippi and outside the U.S.
