At the heart of the Komen Wichita Race for the Cure are people who want to make a difference. They want to support women who are living with breast cancer. They want to help ensure that a cure is found someday. And they want every woman with a breast cancer diagnosis to know help is there for them.

Many Komen supporters are women who have survived breast cancer. Many are family members of those who have not survived, but were buoyed by the programs the Mid-Kansas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure provides.

As thousands of these supporters, patients, family members and others gear up for the Komen Wichita Race for the Cure on Sept. 25, The Wichita Eagle will write about the cause they embrace on this page, today and the next three Tuesdays.

If you’re interested in participating in the race, either as a runner or as a volunteer, find out more at www.komenmidks.org or by calling 316-683-8510.

Today, we profile two Wichita women who won their battles against breast cancer, and lend their support to the Race for the Cure so others will, too.
