Moped driver tries to outrun police
BY STAN FINGERThe Wichita Eagle
WICHITA — Quick — what's faster: A moped or a police car?
A 32-year-old man apparently forgot that Sunday night when he decided to try to flee a police cruiser after being pulled over for not having a headlight on his moped.
The incident began at about 11:15 p.m. at Maple and Maize Road in west Wichita, police said.
As the officer was checking on whether the driver was wanted anywhere — there was a warrant for him out of Salina — the 32-year-old moped driver took off.
The chase lasted a few minutes "until the moped driver realized he was not going to be able to outrun the police," Lt. Darras Delamaide said.
The driver was booked on a variety of alleged offenses, and detained on the battery warrant out of Salina.
