City League
* Carroll, the defending City League champ, has six seniors back, including setters Sarah Baldaras and Morgan Thome. Cara Detmer was an All-City League defensive specialist. Sophomore Meghan Dugan is a transfer from Valley Center.
* Haleigh Lewis, an All-City hitter as a junior with 209 kills, leads East. Senior Kelley Courington (libero) and Shelby Bishop (hitter) are back.
* Five starters are back for Heights, which finished tied for second in the City League, including All-Metro junior Crystal Whitten and seniors Perri Tucker and Juliahna Stockham.
* Kapaun upset Andover Central in the Class 5A sub-state final last season, and returns four players — Jenny Gerlach (outside), Molly Faragher (setter), Jenna Golay (defensive specialist) and Alexis Fulghum (hitter).
* Five varsity players return for North, including seniors Nicole Shaw (setter), Chasity Clark (outside) and Chloe Stevenson (libero).
* South has new coach Ashley Dalian and a lot of youth. The Titans have seniors Amber Stephens and Kaitlyn Tanner, along with eight juniors.
* Southeast seniors Desirea Holmes (setter) and Desiree Raines (outside) return along with juniors Connie Nguyen (libero), Cora Gouldner (outside) and Kourtney Bishop (defensive specialist).
* West hopes four starters returning translates into more wins.
Area schools
* Andale returns seniors Maci Grimes, Emma Orth and Rachel Macari and juniors Paige Teel and Erin Tice.
* Andover is inexperienced and will count on seniors Taylor Tilson (outside), Alexa Fritz (setter) and Elisa Martin (hitter).
* Andover Central lost its only game in a Class 5A sub-state final. Five seniors graduated, but the Jaguars should be fine with seniors Meredith Meier, Justine Howarter and junior Mackenzie Harding.
* Attica graduated one starter, returning seniors Brianna Mitton and Madison Wyatt.
* Augusta has a new coach, Heidi Dreiling.
* Bluestem has three senior hitters returning: Alex Emmons, Jordan Flowers and Danyel Anglemeyer, along with sophomore libero Brandee Oliver.
* Buhler is experienced with all but one starter returning, including sophomore Josie Williams, sophomore Macki Pankratz and senior Stephanie Patterson.
* Burrton returns seniors Taylor Davis and Kailey Gardner.
* Campus has experience in setter Morgan Jennings, a four-year starter, hitter Tiffany Richter, three-year starter, and hitters Shelby Welch and Cassandra Ward, two-year starters.
* Centre has four starters back _ seniors Tori Marler and Allison Shields and sophomores Ellie Miller and Anna Weber.
* Senior setter Janna Wilkinson is a key returner for Chaparral .
* Cheney, which finished third in Class 4A, returns seniors Merissa Quick and Allyssa Nikkel, along with juniors Alison Akler and Payton Scheer.
* Clearwater graduated six key players, has two seniors and little experience. Seniors Hannah Tjaden and Megan Mengelkoch return.
* Derby has returners Taylor Littleton (middle), Jessica Onken (setter/hitter), Hayley Ray (outside), Emily Ross (defensive specialist), Amber Garrett (hitter) and Bekah Spainhour (outside).
* Douglass has improved its win total the past four seasons. Seniors Hayley Young (setter), Taren Houser (outside) and Sarah Bergley (middle) return.
* El Dorado returns six seniors _ Rachael West (middle), Haley Bergen (hitter/setter), Jaimie House (hitter/setter), Alissa Riffel (libero) Taylor Grunder (hitter) and Lindsay Klein (outside).
* Each of Garden Plain's six seniors are multi-sport athletes _ Leann Patterson (hitter), Mackenzie Fisher (hitter), Jordan Hoheisel (hitter), Anna Renyer (middle), Page Stuhlsatz (hitter), Bradie Schmelzer (hitter).
* Goddard's leading hitter and blocker, senior Shelby Zoglman, returns from a 32-win season. Seniors Shelby Ebarb (hitter) and Cori O'Donoghue (libero) are back with junior Jessica Mitchell (hitter).
* Goessel graduated a strong group of seniors, but returns letterwinners Kendra Flaming, Jennifer VanHorn and Paige Booton.
* Halstead Is young at setter and libero, but junior Aubrie VanSteenburg (middle) is dominant.
* Hesston's Dominique Chew is back, along with seniors Mollie Nebel, Emily Schadler, Shelby Spencer and junior Sam Short.
* Hillsboro has little returning experience outside of starters senior Allie Faul and sophomore Tena Loewen.
* Hutchinson Trinity has seniors Tori Hale, Jennie Cook and Rachel Clark.
* Maize returns junior outside McKenzie Hartzog, who led the Eagles in kills. Seniors Lindsey Jones (middle) and Adrienn Amaro (setter) return.
* Maize South is in its first season of league play, returning every player, including Jody Larson (setter/hitter), Mackenzie Obermeyer (middle), McKenna Poynter (libero), Hannah Jennings (outside), Shea Poynter (setter), Allix Osman (outside).
* McPherson has five players back, including junior setter Bethany Farres.
* Medicine Lodge graduated its varsity setters but returns senior hitters Megan Honas, Shanndi Boor, Shanise Rice and Lauren Schmidt.
* Moundridge, the defending 2A champion, doesn't have much height. Senior Taylor Schrag (middle) returns. Juniors Renae Stucky (libero), Taylor Higgins (hitter), Tiffany Fisher (hitter), Jenn Kaufman (setter) and freshman MacKenzie Suderman (hitter) will play.
* Newton, a 5A qualifier in 2009, returns Kate Lehman (6-foot-4), Katie Loescher, Taylor Zwiesler and Maggie Porter. Sophomore Emily Hiebert, a starter, is being recruited by Division I schools.
* Nickerson returns seniors Brandy Mader, Tiffany Willbanks, McKenna Deckard and Aubrey Hook.
* Peabody-Burns has two starters back in seniors Embry Hodges (middle) and Michaela Methvin (outside).
* Remington won 31 matches but graduated key players. Senior Jessica DeBaun (middle) returns.
* Rose Hill returns a solid group — seniors Bailey Burnett (153 kills), Kelsey Webber (233 kills) and juniors Jessica McDougald (194 kills) and Katelynn Slade (641 assists). There's plenty of competition behind them, including from sophomores.
* Sedgwick's Konner Davison, an All-Heart of America player, is one of four seniors.
* Seven of Sunrise's top nine players are back. Senior Audrey Southworth led Sunrise in kills, and senior Alyssa Stopp and sophomore Sierra Skillen take over at setter.
* Udall has seniors Abby Mettling, Brandi Smith, Coty Shelton and Lauren Pauly.
* Valley Center returns All-Metro setter Emily Otte and Ashlyn Driskill, who made an oral commitment to Wichita State.
* Wichita Collegiate, the defending Class 3A champion, graduated top players but still has senior middle Ashia Woods, an All-MCAA selection.
* Wichita Independent has a new coach (Megan Morris) and senior Anique Valmont, senior Imani Fenner and junior Emily Granger.
* Wichita Trinity has every starter back, including Miranda Alfers, Morgan Goscha and Lydia Manning.
