HCA, parent company of Wesley Medical Center, said this morning that net income in the second quarter increased 3.4 percent to $293 million, compared to $282 million in 2009's second quarter.

It said revenues were up 3.7 percent to $7.756 billion in 2010 compared to $7.483 billion for the same period in 2009.

Charity care and uninsured discounts, which reduce reported revenues, increased to $1.670 billion in the second quarter compared to $1.190 billion in 2009's second quarter, the company said.

As of June 30, HCA operated 162 hospitals and 106 freestanding surgery centers, including eight hospitals and eight freestanding surgery centers operated through equity method joint ventures.
