See city's, county's budgets on the Web

  • Published Monday, July 19, 2010, at 12:04 a.m.

Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

For a complete list of You Oughta Know columns, go to www.kansas.com/oughta.

The record: The city of Wichita and Sedgwick County's proposed budgets for next year.

Why you'd want them: To learn more about how your tax dollars are spent.

Where you get the records: The city has its proposed budget online at www.wichita.gov. The county has its proposed budget online at www.sedgwickcounty.org. Copies also are available in the finance department and city manager's office at City Hall and at the finance office at the Courthouse.

How much it will cost: The information is free.
