The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the theft of a Gino Salerno carved-wood statue that was returned Friday morning to its owner, Marge Page.
The Sheriff's Office and Page's family said a woman driving by a house in the 600 block of North Fountain saw the statue on the front porch. Recognizing the junior golf boy statue from a photo in The Wichita Eagle, she reported it to the Wichita Police Department.
Sheriff's officers returned the statue to Page on Friday.
Sheriff's Capt. Annette Haga said that no one had been arrested in the case and the Sheriff's Office had not been able to contact the occupants of the house where the statue was found.
The statue, valued at $3,500, is half of a pair of junior golf statues — one boy and one girl — that Page owns.
"My mother describes them as part of the family, so she's delighted," said Al Page, Marge's son.
Marge Page first noticed the statue was missing from the entryway of her home on Via Verde on June 30. She said she appreciates the community's efforts in recovering her statue.
To prevent the statues from future theft, they are now on her front patio behind a locked door, meaning passers-by will have to look hard to see them, Page said.
"The sadness is that they can't be appreciated by other people like they were," she said.
