Counties' health statistics are online

  • Published Monday, June 21, 2010, at 12:02 a.m.

Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

For a complete list of You Oughta Know columns, go to www.kansas.com/oughta.

The records: Health statistics for every county across the country.

Why you'd want them: To learn more about the health of your community.

Where you get the records: Go to www.countyhealthrankings.org. There you will find information about mortality and factors that affect health such as smoking, drinking and obesity.

How much it will cost: The information, researched by the University of Wisconsin's Population Health Institute and featured in this month's AARP Bulletin, is free.
