Wichita Chick-fil-A fanatics, you asked and you shall receive. The Atlanta-based fast food chain is in final negotiations to bring a freestanding Chick-fil-A to the northwest corner of Central and Rock Road where a Presto gas station has been.
The deal is all but signed. Presto's last day in business was Saturday.
Chick-fil-A has space in the Rhatigan Student Center at Wichita State University , but Wichitans have long requested that it bring at least one if not more of the restaurants somewhere off campus.
Commercial broker and Chick-fil-A die-hard Cory Harkleroad started a one-man campaign to bring more of the restaurants to Wichita and has a Facebook page to promote the idea. The page has more than 8,000 friends.
"While it's not my deal, I'm excited (about) any hand I might have had in getting them motivated to move forward in this area," Harkleroad says. "I'm really excited to go pick up a chicken sandwich in their drive-through."
No one with Chick-fil-A could be reached for comment, but it looks like the chain plans more than one restaurant in addition to the WSU location.
The deal at Central and Rock isn't contingent on other locations.

All about it
A new store is coming to the former Aldi space on West Central.
All About Used will open at 3110 W. Central next to Barney's Deep Discount Pharmacy , which also is the landlord.
Paul Trout says his store, which he's opening with his wife, Alana , is a variety thrift store that will sell "just anything and everything that anybody needs."
There will be mostly used but some new furniture, appliances, knickknacks, electronics and building materials.
"We take donations just like any thrift store, and they can get a tax write-off," Trout says.
He says part of the business is a sole proprietorship, and part of it is a nonprofit.
The Trouts recently moved from Missouri, where they also had a store.
"The economy seems to be better here," Paul Trout says.
The Trouts have family in the area.
Their building is 10,000 square feet, with 7,000 square feet of that being showroom space.
Trout says he likes the building's size.
Also, he says, "I like the foot traffic that Barney's has."
The Trouts hope to open Memorial Day weekend.
