WICHITA — A 17-year-old boy is recuperating at a local hospital today after being shot at his northeast Wichita home Wednesday, police said.

The teen was walking from a convenience store to his home in the 5100 block of East Kensington, near 17th and Oliver, just before 4 p.m. when he heard someone shout "Get him!" and fire two shots toward him just as he reached his front door, police said.

One of the shots hit the teen in his left shoulder. He was driven in a private vehicle to Galichia Heart Hospital, then transferred to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis for shoulder surgery.

Police are looking for a maroon 1990s Chevy Suburban with low-profile tires, large spike chrome rims, double doors on the back and tinted windows.

The victim saw two men in the vehicle. Police found a bullet strike in the siding on the front of the house.

Officers are still looking for the two suspects.
