Pickup crash in Wichita kills man, 33

What began for Wichita police as a domestic violence call in east Wichita ended Sunday morning when a 33-year-old man sped past police in a pickup truck, then crashed into a utility pole.

The accident happened near North High School at 15th and North Arkansas, leaving neighborhood residents without power for several hours.

Police began pursuing the man about 4 a.m. Sunday near Harry and Rock Road.

According to news reports from KFDI, police were en route to the area to investigate a report of domestic violence. Officers noticed a speeding pickup.

Officers followed but the chase was called off at 21st and North Broadway.

The driver continued to speed until the accident. He was taken in critical condition to a hospital, but died shortly after arrival.

The man's name has not been released. Police are still investigating.
