WICHITA — Cold and snowy — that remains the forecast for the weekend.
The snow accumulation around the Wichita area could be 4 to 7 inches, National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Jakub said today.
When you combine the snowfall with the expected wind, visibility could be hampered, and driving conditions could be hazardous, Jakub said.
Here's how he expects the snowstorm to develop:
The temperature will top out probably in the mid-50s today before a cold front blows in this afternoon, causing temperatures to fall to the 40s by sunset.
There is a chance of rain this afternoon and definitely tonight. The rain could change to sleet or snow around midnight in the Wichita area.
The chance for snow continues through Saturday, with the heaviest snowfall likely beginning Saturday morning.
Expect blowing snow Saturday morning.
The snowfall should last through the afternoon and taper off Saturday night.
Saturday's high temperature will be about 32 — freezing.
By Sunday morning, the snow will likely have moved on to southeast Kansas.
The low Sunday morning should be about 24 degrees.
Sunday's high will be about 42, but it could be lower depending on the amount of snowfall.
Snow makes it difficult for the air to warm up, Jakub said.
