History shows the economy was booming until unintelligent, nonthinking people were persuaded to vote for change.

All the tea partiers need to move to Somalia — a lot of guns, no government and no social programs.

* * *

The United States is broke. So why are we continuing to send Israel billions of dollars in aid, so Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu can thumb his nose at us and the peace process by continuing to build illegal settlements?

* * *

Providing health coverage for those with pre-existing conditions is like buying auto collision insurance for a car that already has been wrecked. You can argue the merits of doing that, but it is going to raise costs for everybody, not lower them.

Now that it appears Boeing will get the Air Force tanker contract, who will keep it honest? Let's see how much work is outsourced to other countries. Will the planes be American-made? Time will tell.

* * *

Are we really still arguing over the Fred Phelps clan's First Amendment rights? The only reason the Phelpses have these rights is because of our soldiers. If they can't respect our soldiers as their bodies are laid to rest, then the Phelpses lose those rights.

I will be so glad when the soda tax goes into effect. And I will be joining the effort to outlaw pop in all public places.

* * *

Rather than stupid little taxes on pop, wouldn't it make more sense to get rid of certain tax shelters, or to tax the people who are outsourcing? There's a lot more money there than on a silly can of pop.

Someone said smokers must be Democrats, but I think they have to be Republicans. They are now whining because they can't smoke anyplace they want to and throw their cigarette butts anywhere they want to.

* * *

After we get rid of all the smokers in the city, let's go after the annoying barking dogs. Five-minute rule — anything over that, the owner gets a ticket. It would also help with city revenue.

* * *

Texting in church, texting while driving, texting at the dinner table. We are a society that is addicted to texting. A "text tax" would balance the budget in no time.

Am I the only one who noticed that at the Billy Joel/Elton John concert, they both played the first line from "Wichita Lineman" on the piano?
