I keep wondering why the Republicans keep insisting that the Democrats are the "big spenders," when Democrats leave a surplus when they leave office and Republicans leave us with a huge budget deficit.

Congress has only those powers listed in Article 1, Section 8, of the Constitution. Regulating health care is not listed there and is therefore unconstitutional. The people are not bound by any unconstitutional act of Congress.

To the person who advised the Wichita school board to "cut, cut, cut": Even if you are not a parent and just a citizen, do you realize that the children whose education is being cut will be the adults taking care of us when we are in retirement homes? Still want to "cut, cut, cut"?

The Wichita school district is entirely too top-heavy. There is too much waste at the downtown office. Two or three people are doing the work that one person could do.

I quit smoking five years ago. Hateful comments like those I read in Opinion Line have me considering taking it up again. You people need to back off. Too many Opinion Line comments express the sentiment that "you need to do what I want." That's not the idea that our country was founded to preserve.

Before you refer to smokers as weak-willed, you should know that many former heroin addicts have reported that quitting smoking was more difficult than quitting heroin. After six years I still get cravings. Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I have done in my entire life.

Gas prices have gone up again. I don't care what the meaningless excuse is. I'm skipping vacation, moving close to work, walking everywhere. Hope everyone joins in and tells the oil companies to eat their oil prices.
