WICHITA — A 3-month-old boy has been hospitalized with a fractured skull and bruised brain after an apparent home accident, police said.

The infant was brought to Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus at about 8 p.m. Tuesday with serious head injuries, Capt. Brent Allred said.

An investigation determined the boy's 5-year-old sister was carrying him at their home in the 2900 block of South Washington when she dropped him and his head struck a tile floor, Allred said.

The girl did not initially tell her parents about the incident, but they noticed bruising on their son's head and took him to the hospital.

The investigation is continuing, Allred said.

Hospital officials would not release information about the infant's condition, but Allred said the child is expected to live.
