Warm weather in March has pushed the Kansas wheat crop faster than in recent years.

Twenty percent of the winter wheat is breaking dormancy, up from 4 percent the week before. Four percent of the wheat is jointed, compared to the five-year average of 1 percent.

The wheat condition is rated as 1 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 50 percent good and 10 percent excellent.

Eighty-five percent of the crop had no wind damage, and 81 percent had no freeze damage.
