Series finale

"Nip/Tuck"

Series creator Ryan Murphy ("Glee") wrote the script for the finale to this compulsively addictive and envelope-pushing drama, as Christian (Julian McMahon) sees a vision of Kimber (Kelly Carlson) and is stricken with guilt over his loving but turbulent and decades-long relationship with Sean (Dylan Walsh). 9 p.m., FX, Channel 31.

Special

"Faces of America With Henry Gates Jr."

In the new episode "Know Thyself," Gates demonstrates how to pick up the search for ancestors where the historical record leaves off, linking the distinctive family histories of such guests as Elizabeth Alexander, Meryl Streep, Mike Nichols, Yo-Yo Ma and Eva Longoria Parker to the broader history of "the family of man." 7 p.m., PBS and KPTS, Channel 8.

Movie

"Cool Hand Luke"

What we've got here is the ultimate prison movie, which set the standard for the genre and earned Paul Newman an Oscar nomination. His Luke is a rebellious World War II vet who lands on a chain gang for beheading some parking meters in a fit of rage. Newman didn't win, but George Kennedy took home the best supporting actor statuette as Luke's friend. Strother Martin and Dennis Hopper co-star in the 1967 drama. 7 p.m., TCM, Channel 65.
