A judge has agreed to delay the sentencing of Scott Roeder until April 1 at the request of defense lawyers, a courthouse spokesman said today. The sentencing was originally set for March 9.
Prosecutors have said they will seek a Hard 50 sentence for Roeder, who was convicted last month of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Wichita abortion provider George Tiller.
The sentence — life without parole for 50 years — is reserved for the state's most heinous crimes when the death penalty does not apply.
Roeder, 51, also faces sentencing on two counts of aggravated assault for pointing a gun at two men who tried block his escape after shooting Tiller.
