Clinton set to walk Chelsea down the aisle

  • Published Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at 12:07 a.m.

Bill Clinton is keeping clear of the wedding planning for daughter Chelsea's upcoming nuptials — but he will have two very important jobs when it comes to her big day.

"I'm just supposed to walk her down the aisle and pay the bills," Clinton told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show Monday morning.

The details of Chelsea's wedding to fiance Marc Mezvinsky are up to "Chelsea and her mother," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton , said the father of the bride-to-be. "They're having a good time doing it."

But the former president is beaming with joy over the couple's impending marriage.

"I must say I am very happy," he said. "My daughter is happy. I like and admire my future son-in-law, so I couldn't be happier about it."

Asked if he expected to shed tears on his daughter's wedding day, Clinton said, "Probably. I always thought being her father was my most important job, so it's a big day for me. (It's) the biggest day in her life, probably, and I'm happy."

Chelsea, 29, and Mezvinsky, 31, an investment banker, became engaged in November.

Connick sings for kids in D.C.

Harry Connick Jr. told students Sunday that music can get people through the darkest times — even a disaster like Hurricane Katrina, which devastated his hometown, New Orleans, in 2005.

The Grammy-winning composer and singer was welcomed to the White House by first lady Michelle Obama , who invited him to perform for members of a Washington, D.C., elementary school glee club.

Connick invited one of the children to join him and his band onstage and help sing "When the Saints Go Marching In."

He performed later Sunday night as part of the National Governors Association's Governor's Ball.
