As the younger brother, Jake Gyllenhaal might not get to impart too much wisdom to big sister Maggie Gyllenhaal . But when she earned her first Academy Award nomination this month — well, that's a road he's been down before.
His main advice for Oscar season? Have fun with it.
"He said, 'It's a lot of fun, and enjoy it in that spirit. If you make it too much more than that, you'll probably go astray,' " Maggie said at the Oscar nominees' annual luncheon Monday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
Maggie, 32, is up for best supporting actress for "Crazy Heart." Jake, 29, a best supporting actor nominee for 2005's "Brokeback Mountain," had pointers for his sister from the moment the nominations were announced on Feb. 2.
"My phone started ringing at 5 o'clock in the morning, and there's that first batch of phone calls from people who are up that early in the morning," she said. "I remember (Jake) looked at me and said, 'Your phone is going to be like that all day.' It was true."
Richie, Madden engaged
Nicole Richie is engaged to longtime boyfriend Joel Madden . The 28-year-old Richie confirmed the engagement Monday during a taping of CBS's "Late Show With David Letterman ." The show will air Friday.
Letterman asked, "You're not married yet, is that correct?" Richie replied, "We're not married."
Letterman then asked if she and Madden planned to marry. Richie said, "We actually recently are engaged, yes."
Madden, 30, fronts the band Good Charlotte. The couple have a 2-year-old daughter and a 5-month-old son.
Chynna Phillips under treatment for anxiety
A representative for Chynna Phillips says the 42-year-old singer has entered an undisclosed treatment facility for anxiety.
A statement issued by her publicist, Lizzie Grubman, says Phillips checked herself into the facility "after much thoughtful deliberation."
Phillips, of the pop group Wilson Phillips, is married to actor William Baldwin . The couple have three children.
She is the half-sister of former child actress Mackenzie Phillips , who claimed in a 2009 memoir that she had a decade-long sexual relationship with their father, pop star John Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas.
